Stone & Veneer, in practice
Manufactured stone veneer fails when the water management behind it is wrong. It needs a weather-resistive barrier, lath, a scratch coat and a weep screed at the bottom so water that gets behind it can escape. Stone laid straight onto sheathing traps water against the wall.
Blending is what makes stonework look natural. Stone laid straight out of the pallet produces obvious color banding, and mixing from several pallets as the wall goes up is the difference between a wall that looks quarried and one that looks ordered.
